Bolton Celebration Essay

The Walt Whitman Quarterly Review's current issue (Winter 2009) contains an essay about the Bolton Whitman Celebration held in May of 2008 in Bolton, Lancashire. The Edward Carpenter Forum participated in this event and the article is co-authored by Joey Cain of the Forum and Michael Robertson of the Collage of New Jersey, USA. Michael is the author of Worshipping Walt: The Whitman Disciples from Princeton University Press and was a featured speaker at the three day Bolton event.

Historian Paul Salveson, the Lord Mayor of Bolton and Michael Robertson unveiling the Whitman historical plaque on the front of the Bolton Public Library. The Library contains one of the largest collections of Whitman materials in the world in the collections related to the "Eagle Street Collage". Edward Carpenter was close friends with several of the Bolton Whitmanites.

The Mission of Edward Carpenter Forum

The Edward Carpenter Forum is dedicated to the exploration of the life, ideas, and work of the pioneering thinker, activist and visionary Edward Carpenter and his circle.

We seek to: create connections and facilitate discussion among Edward Carpenter enthusiasts; increase public awareness and knowledge about Carpenter including his continuing relevance for today; provide resources and programs for the general public, enthusists and the dedicated student; encourage the production of original works on Carpenter and his circle.

Projects of the Edward Carpenter Forum, which is an all volunteer, not for profit organization, include a website, newsletter and programs such as lectures, workshops, gatherings and other public events.
